The Parish ofSATTERTHWAITEA SOCIAL HISTORYSUZANNE TIPLADY & KEVIN BAVERSTOCK
ISBN: 978-0992952204. Hardcover, 592 pages, 450 illustrations.
New Text
This social history of the Parish of Satterthwaite records the life and times of the inhabitants of the settlements of Satterthwaite, Grizedale, Dale Park, Force, Graythwaite and Low Cunsey. Over the years, the environs of Satterthwaite have been written about in several histories covering the High Furness region of Cumbria, but few have gone into any great detail. The Parish of Satterthwaite – A Social History is the first volume of a two part series that sets out to be a complete study of the people and places of the Parish of Satterthwaite. Begun in 2005, the project has taken many hours of research. Recollections of local inhabitants have been sought in order to help uncover the social history (volume one), and detailed surveys have recorded surviving land features and examined the remains of vernacular buildings in order to reveal the history of the landscape (volume two). Volume Two is currently in production.
